Wandering Wellness customizes each massage session by incorporating many different techniques tailored to your individual needs, goals, and personal preferences.
You can choose any of the below for your session, & in any order or combination your Path to Zen desires!
SWEDISH Most traditional form of Western massage, involves five primary techniques used in many types of massage. 1. Effleurage - long, gliding strokes to warm up the muscles. 2. Petrissage - kneading & squeezing motions to release tension. 3. Friction - used to relax muscles and soft tissues. 4. Tapotement - rhythmically tapping the body. 5. Vibration - encourages circulation & softens connective tissue.
DEEP TISSUE Targets deep layers of muscle & tissue utilizing the same techniques from Swedish but with slower and firmer pressure. Typically used in conjunction with Trigger Point & Neuromuscular Therapies. Deep Tissue means deeper pressure; HOWEVER, proper application should not cause extreme pain and/or extensive recovery time from treatment. You can achieve Deep Tissue techniques without causing pain/secondary damage to tissue.
TRIGGER POINT/NEUROMUSCULAR Trigger points are painful “knots” in your muscles that can be very sensitive to touch/pressure. These "knots" are actually adhesions in the tissue caused by scar tissue. They may form after acute trauma or by repetitive micro-trauma, leading to stress on muscle fibers. It causes the muscle fibers to be stuck in a contracted state. Neuromuscular massage is a targeted type of Deep Tissue massage that aims to relieve pain and restore normal function by addressing trigger points, circulation, nerve compression, postural problems and repetitive movement injuries.
SPORTS Sports massage is focused and systematic, targeting muscles that are used in a specific sport. It uses various techniques to decrease muscle pain and improve recovery, as well as improve overall range of motion and flexibility to support safe and effective movement. Sports massages can be used before, during, or after training. They can be tailored to the individual's training, injury, or condition. Sports massages use a variety of techniques, including kneading, grasping, effleurage, wringing, hacking, and trigger pointing.
ASSISTED STRETCHING Assisted stretching is a technique where a trained professional guides a client through a stretching session to help them achieve deeper stretches and improve their flexibility. Typically performed with client in loose fitting clothing on the massage table. How it works: A professional can help guide you through the stretching process by: - Coaching you on breathing - Ensuring your body is in the correct position - Helping you find the right level of intensity - Applying gentle pressure to specific muscles - Holding your limbs in certain positions Assisted stretching can be a standalone appointment or part of a massage session.
REFLEXOLOGY Modality based on the theory that specific points on the feet, hands, scalp, and ears correspond to specific glands, organs, body systems, & parts of the musculoskeletal system. By massaging these points, reflexologists aim to stimulate energy pathways and restore balance to the body.
LOMI LOMI Lomi Lomi is the traditional & sacred ceremonial bodywork of Hawaii. Focusing on the mind, body, & spirit. It is a blend of the physical work, as well as the intention and presence you bring to the table. Using a non-sequential style that has many movements done alongside the whole body, from the feet to the head. It allows a safe space for the mind, body, & spirit to heal from within by releasing trapped emotional & physical trauma. For a traditional Lomi Lomi experience allow for a minimum of 90 minutes.
LYMPHATIC A lymphatic massage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), is a gentle massage technique that helps move excess fluid from the body's tissues to lymph nodes and vessels. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels and organs that filters waste and bacteria and is a key part of the immune system.
AROMATHERAPY A complementary therapy, you both inhale these essential oil molecules and absorb them through your skin (diluted with a carrier oil used during massage). Aromatherapy massage is thought to have many benefits, including: - Reducing stress - Relieving pain - Improving circulation - Boosting the immune system - Easing muscle tension - Reducing headaches and migraines - Promoting restful sleep
